Lately, I’ve been playing with the concept of getting as many different “locations” out of one area by my house. This actually was taken by our high school athletic field. Indeed, I was actually parked really closely to this area where we shot.

Toying vaguely with a 1930s theme, I wanted the cap, a white t-shirt and jeans. No shoes. This would lend itself to a timeless feel. Our sunsets have been quite rich lately, and I’ve been primarily using natural light for the past few weeks. Most of my images in the recent past have been taken after sunset, at what some photographers call “magic hour”. (“Golden hour” is at sunrise and sunset).

Although I had planned to take my 105mm portrait lens today, my husband I had gone for a late walk and got home just after the sun set. With not much time, I used the lens I already had on my camera, a 50mm. Not typically considered a portrait lens, I do love it for this type of portraits. It’s fast shutter speed make it lovely for shooting at this time in the evening.
